Lanka Milk Foods

Profile

LMF Group has established itself as a pioneer in Sri Lanka’s dairy industry, building a remarkable legacy grounded in excellence, innovation, and trust. Our unwavering commitment extends beyond providing Sri Lankan consumers with high-quality, nutritious dairy products. It encompasses responsible cattle care, sustainable farming practices, and a long-term vision to strengthen Sri Lanka’s dairy industry for generations to come.

Our flagship brand, Lakspray, has remained a trusted household name for over six decades, synonymous with quality and nourishment. Daily pioneered the introduction of UHT processed flavoured milk in Sri Lanka over 30 years ago, revolutionizing milk distribution by enabling safe storage and transportation under ambient temperatures. The Group’s end-to-end control of the supply chain continues to be a key strategic advantage, while investments in the farming sector since 2001 have strengthened backward integration and ensured a consistent supply of premium-quality fresh milk for our manufacturing operations.

LMF Group’s diverse portfolio, including much loved brands such as Ambewela, Daily and My Juicee, reflects our dedication to offering Sri Lankan consumers a wide range of nourishing dairy and beverage products. Our partnership with Happy Cow further reinforces our position as a leader in Sri Lanka’s dairy industry. The latest introduction to the portfolio is “Suddhi”, a fresh milk product made with milk sourced from local dairy farmers and marketed under the LMF label. This product was launched to support   local dairy farmers, and to provide customers with a lower priced alternative to the premium Ambewela fresh milk.

We operate two of Sri Lanka’s largest dairy farms — Ambewela Farm and Pattipola Farm — demonstrating our commitment to animal welfare, sustainable agriculture, and operational excellence. Our expansion through United Dairies Lanka has created one of South Asia’s largest integrated dairy complexes, featuring state-of-the-art facilities housing over 4,500 cows across two farms and producing approximately 60,000 to 70,000 litres of milk daily. This milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s dairy production capabilities and shaping the future of the industry.

Situated in Sri Lanka’s central hill country at an elevation of 6,000 feet above sea level, Ambewela Dairy Farms provide the ideal environment for our Friesian and Ayrshire cattle herds. To maintain the purity and quality of our Friesian and Ayrshire breeds, artificial insemination is carried out using premium semen imported from the USA and Finland. Utilizing modern scientific advancements, the farms use carefully selected sex semen from world’s top-5 bull semen to ensure superior pedigree, high immunity, easy calving, and optimal milk production suited to Sri Lanka’s sub-tropical climate

The cows are nourished with premium ryegrass imported from Australia and New Zealand — scientifically recognized for its high protein content and contribution to superior milk production. Our farms achieve an average yield of 35 litres of milk per cow per day, the highest average yield in the country, while high-performing cows produce between 50 and 70 litres daily. Temperature-controlled modern barns, balanced nutrition, and carefully managed living conditions ensure the highest standards of animal comfort and welfare.

Our farming operations are supported by advanced agricultural machinery including heavy-duty tractors, slurry bowsers, and fertilizer boom sprayers, enabling efficient and mechanized cultivation practices. The cattle feed formula is developed in consultation with global experts in animal nutrition and produced at our sophisticated in-house feed mill. Animal healthcare is overseen by a resident Veterinary Surgeons. Supported by a highly qualified and experienced workforce, our farms consistently operate at international standards, producing milk with exceptionally low bacterial plate counts, spore counts and somatic cell counts comparable to leading dairy-producing nations in Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

The premium-quality milk produced at Ambewela Farms is processed at our advanced manufacturing facilities located in Welisara and Ambewela. The market leader in Sri Lanka’s liquid milk category, undergoes the globally renowned UHT process, preserving its full nutritional value for up to six months without refrigeration. Through Lanka Dairies (Pvt) Ltd, the Group pioneered UHT processing and Tetra packaging technology in Sri Lanka.

A defining feature of our production process is that the milk remains untouched by human hands. This fully automated process guarantees exceptional hygiene standards and ensures consumers receive the highest quality dairy products. In addition to fresh milk, value-added products such as yoghurt, cheese, butter, and ghee are manufactured at our Ambewela processing facility.

Expanding beyond dairy, the Group introduced My Juicee fruit nectars in 2017 as part of its strategic product diversification initiative. More recently, Suddhi was launched as a fresh milk brand sourced from local farmer-collected milk, with the objective of empowering Sri Lankan farming communities and uplifting the national dairy industry, also giving a low-price option for the Sri Lankan consumer.

Driven by excellence, innovation, and an uncompromising commitment to quality, LMF Group remains deeply dedicated to its customers and to the nation. Sustainability remains central to our vision, ensuring that our growth contributes responsibly to future generations. Above all, our purpose is to deliver nourishment that enriches lives while fostering progress, well-being, and opportunity within the communities we serve. As we look ahead, we remain committed to building a brighter, healthier future for Sri Lanka

In order to maintain a pure breed of Friesians and Ayrshires artificial inseminations are carried out with best quality semen imported from USA and Finland respectively. The characteristics of imported semen are meticulously selected to suit our sub-tropical climatic conditions, easy calving, high immunity system, and high production of milk. In keeping with the modern scientific development the farms use only sexed semen to minimize the birth of male calves.

The best of modern machinery such as heavy duty tractors, slurry bowsers, fertilizer boom sprayers and like are used for mechanized cultivation. The feed formula is specially designed by a global expert in cattle nutrition from South Africa. This feed is produced in highly sophisticated feed mill installed within the farm. The health care of the animals is carefully looked into, by a resident Veterinary Surgeon and two visiting Veterinary Surgeons with foreign experience. In addition, the qualified and well experienced staff, maintain the farms at an international standard. Consequently the excellent quality of milk produced has a very low plate count of bacteria, which is the same as in the traditional dairy producing countries in western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The quality milk thus produced is processed at two sophisticated factories located in Welisara and Ambewela. The Ambewela Fresh Milk pack which is the market leader in liquid milk today, has gone through the world renounced UHT process thus preserving the milk with its full nutritive value for a period of six months without refrigeration.
